With so much data, nüvi 2597LMT makes it easy to find addresses and millions of POIs such as businesses, stores, restaurants and other destinations. nüvi 2597LMT arrives preloaded with POIs, so there’s no need for you to enter that address information. Garmin Traffic
nüvi 2597LMT features Garmin Traffic to help you spend more time on the move. With Garmin Traffic, your driving map remains onscreen at all times. Traffic alerts appear to the side of your map and messages are spoken, too. Garmin Traffic can give details about the situation, such as how many minutes of delay to expect and if there are any possible detours. It can even confirm whether or not you are on the fastest route. Garmin Traffic is voice activated, so it responds to spoken requests. Lifetime traffic² entitles your nüvi 2597LMT to receive free traffic information for its entire useful life.
The Power of Your Voice
nüvi 2597LMT has the luxury of voice-activated navigation. Speak, and your device intelligently responds; your hands can remain safely on the wheel. Of course, you can also navigate using the touchscreen interface.
Garmin Real Directions™ with Garmin Real Voice™
nüvi 2597LMT redefines “spoken turn-by-turn directions” with Garmin Real Directions, easy-to-understand driving directions that guide like a friend, using recognizable landmarks, buildings and traffic lights. No more stress from trying to read street names. Garmin Real Voice is refined speech technology that sounds more like a natural, friendly voice. Garmin Real Directions and Garmin Real Voice are features that are only available in our line of GPS navigators.
Bluetooth® Compatible
Sync a Bluetooth-enabled device, such as your smartphone, to nüvi 2597LMT for hands-free calling through its integrated microphone and speaker. Safely stow your phone in a glove compartment, pocket or purse and still make and take calls without moving your hands from the steering wheel or your eyes from the road.
Smartphone Link Compatible
Smartphone Link is a free mobile app that connects your nüvi 2597LMT with your Android™ smartphone. When paired, your nüvi 2597LMT can use your phone’s existing data plan³ to share information — such as where you parked, POIs and your destination.
Smartphone Link also gives you access to Garmin Live Services⁴, useful real-time information such as weather and traffic conditions. Garmin Live Services are available free and by subscription.
Comprehensive Driving Guidance You See and Hear
Active Lane Guidance with voice prompts prepares you to drive through an exit or interchange with confidence. As you approach, an animated model uses brightly colored arrows to indicate the proper lane needed for your route; a friendly voice offers additional help. Bird’s Eye junction view offers a detailed view of interchanges, looking down as if from overhead. photoReal junction view realistically displays junctions and interchanges along your route, including the surrounding landscape. Brightly colored arrows indicate the proper lane to drive. nüvi 2597LMT also depicts real road signs as they appear along your route.

¹If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately or bundled together with certain GPS models), you will receive up to 4 map data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin’s website, for 1 compatible Garmin product until your product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter. A product’s “useful life” means the period during which the product (a) has sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs. A product will be deemed to be out of service and its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more. Unless otherwise stated, the updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same geographic map data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the map data, in which case you will need to either (a) select reduced map data coverage for your updates, or (b) purchase separately a microSD™/SD™ card (if and as applicable to your Garmin product) and load all or a portion of the map data coverage for your updates to the card and insert the card into the microSD/SD card slot contained in your Garmin product. If neither of the measures in (a) or (b) can be used to address your product’s lack of sufficient remaining memory, then Garmin may conclude that the “useful life” of your product has expired. Garmin may terminate your nüMaps Lifetime subscription at any time if you violate any of the terms of this agreement or your subscription. Your nüMaps Lifetime subscription may not be transferred to another Garmin product.
²FREE lifetime traffic updates may not be transferred to another person or another Garmin product. Lifetime traffic extends for the useful life of your Garmin traffic receiver (as long as you own a compatible Garmin GPS) or as long as Garmin receives traffic data from its traffic supplier, whichever is shorter. A traffic receiver’s “useful life” means the period during which the receiver (a) has the required technical capabilities to utilize current traffic data service and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs. Traffic content not available for all areas. See traffic coverage areas.
³User’s data plan charges, if any, will apply. Contact your mobile service provider for more information about your service plan’s data and roaming rates.

I had to drive across town to meet with my tax person, and the traffic feature warned me of a closed exit ramp ahead and automatically re-routed me. I would have been late to the appointment without the traffic feature. This model also has several little features that I like and demand on a GPS. First, an arrow and distance indicator for my next turn. Second, a direction of travel indicator (which alternatively can be set to time or altitude). Third, a display of the speed limit (on most roads) and my actual speed. Fourth, a display telling of upcoming intersections. Fifth, it takes a micro-SD card so it will not become obsolete with a growing data base.
One feature I did not expect and just love is an audible and visual warning of schools ahead. Earlier this year, I got stopped by the police for inadvertently missing a school zone warning sign (there were no kids present). Now that won't happen again.
Touching the "speed" indicator brings up a very nice summary page showing:
Trip meter A and Trip meter B
Direction and MPH
Max speed (since reset)
Moving average
Overall average
Time stopped
Time moving
Total time of trip
Time of day
Elevation
Location via GPS coordinates
And lastly, current GPS accuracy based upon satellite reception
That is a very nice feature and I will use it often.
Voice control works great for me. When driving, I do need to speak quite loudly and clearly, but I have reset my destination a number of times as a test, and it functions quite nicely. What I really like is that voice input is not overly structured. By that I mean, after you wake it up and select "find an address," you can just say "1325 Rudolph Street, South Bend, Indiana." It may give you a couple or few alternatives to choose from, but in my case it usually found the address I meant.
The touch screen works as well as that on my smartphone. Some early GPS's were kind of hit and miss with the touch feature. The sensitivity of the 2597 is perfect for me.
The data base is massive. It is about 6 GB with 8 GB of internal memory. That gives you a huge number of gas stations, restaurants, hospitals, etc., making the GPS even more useful.
So far, I have only one con. There are quite a number of menu selections, and they were not all intuitive to me for getting the screen to show what I want. But, that's a learning curve thing, and I am sure I will get quite comfortable with it. But I have seen better menus.
I will probably buy another one for my wife's car to replace her several-year-old 4" Garmin.
Aug 1, 2015 Update:
I did buy a second GPS for my wife's car. We both love the voice control, and the free traffic updates. I assume that Garmin probably gets the traffic updates from a third party vendor. They have been helpful in a few occasions, but they are not perfect. We have encountered a couple of major road closings that we were not alerted to.
It seems that Garmin (as well as any other vendor we have tried) has not yet perfected programming. We have had a few real big brain burps. The most notable was when we were on an Interstate, knowing full well where we were going, and Garmin kept trying to get us to turn off the Interstate in a totally wrong direction (this was not a traffic alert thing - there was no construction in the area). There have been other "misdirections" as well.
Now the good news. If you travel, far and away the best reason to get this GPS is the fabulous data base of places and things. It holds tons of information on gas stations, restaurants, rest stops, parks, and practically anything else you might need. We took a 3,000 mile trip just recently, and the Garmin was just fabulous in helping us find stuff without our having an address. In one case, we got a nail in our tire and it was slowly going flat far from our destination on a late Sunday afternoon. We had no phone service in the area. Garmin helped us find a place (Walmart) just six miles away to get our tire fixed, as we could not find a gas station that provided the service. Best GPS I have ever owned, even if not perfect.
We have an old Windows 7 laptop that can barely run the OS. I was really worried that it would not have the resources to run the Garmin Express software (which is required to update the 2597's firmware and map database.) I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to download and install Garmin Express and successfully update the software and maps on the nuvi (it took nearly 2 hours.)
After mounting the nuvi in the car and powering it on, it took several minutes to initially acquire the satellites. However, subsequent acquisitions are nearly instantaneous. I have to say that I am thrilled with how easy the nuvi is to use. I used my commute to test the system. The touch screen is responsive, sharp, and bright. I was able to easily enter the destination address and the device auto-completed it making selection a breeze. The planned route came up instantly and the voice-directions were accurate and clear.
The 3D view makes it easy to see up-coming intersections and the names of the roads you are approaching (no more squinting and slowing to read street signs!) The distance to your next turn together with the name of the street are displayed across the top of the screen so that you can relax and plan ahead for tricky merges, etc. Your speed is listed in the lower left corner and will be highlighted in red when you exceed the speed limit (this feature is not active on all roads.) I even got warnings when I was approaching school zones. Land marks like gas stations are indicated using icons in the 3D display. This feature is especially helpful since it is reassuring to see, for instance, a Chevron on your right as you reach an intersection exactly as the nuvi indicated.
When you make a wrong turn/miss a turn, etc., the nuvi generates a new route instantly that either follows a new route, or gets you back on track. I found that the nuvi lead me to my destination very smoothly when I struck out on my own detours to avoid traffic.
I will provide updates as I gain more experience with the nuvi. However, it has made a very good first impression and I would recommend it to anyone.
Update:
We used the nuvi recently to get us to, through, and from our Disney World vacation, which involved a 1600 mile round trip. The nuvi performed admirably and I honestly don't know what I would have done without it. It was a very technical piece of driving with countless road and highway transitions and several very complicated interchanges. The nuvi was accurate in its traffic congestion and construction warnings and automatically planned time-saving detours for us when I-75 turned into a veritable parking lot. Night driving in fast, highly dense traffic on unfamiliar interstates was extremely stressful, but much less so than it would have been without the nuvi. While the brightness of the display remains constant, the nuvi automatically detects low-light conditions and changes the map background to a dark gray color in order to keep the display from blinding you. Yet another detail that left me delighted and astonished.
The road system on and around Disney property is a confusing mess, especially for the uninitiated (e.g., us.) It was so nice being able to punch in the name of your park of choice and have the route come up instantly. However, I found that the nuvi sometimes struggled with the initial and final portions of routes. That is, you would often find yourself doing unnecessary u-turns or going in circles before you would finally hit the main transit road(s) for the route. There were 3 occasions where this was particularly problematic. In one instance, we were directed to enter Animal Kingdom before performing a u-turn. Fortunately, we had a parking pass. If we had not, we would have been forced to pay an unnecessary fee. I also noticed that on toll roads when you approach toll booths, the voice nav instructs you to stay in the lanes reserved for people who have pre-paid toll passes. If I had not been paying attention, I could easily have been fined. In another instance, the nuvi planned a route that wanted me to take a gated, gravel, maintenance road that lead through private property. As a software developer, I don't fault the nuvi. Route-finding algorithms are tremendously complicated and even with these issues, I find the nuvi's performance to be miraculous. However, you do need to pay attention. You should never rely on technology to replace common sense. Unless you are flying a plane in poor visibility conditions... alas, I digress. But you get the point.
All-in-all, I am still VERY happy with the nuvi.

The main negative is that price is relatively high compared with competitor brands having same features and to utilize all features I have to connect the device with a mobile having data plan
I received the device within the mentioned shipping period and was new, in box, sealed and well packed
